LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch could be seen across the Las Vegas valley Sunday evening as a bright streak painted the valley sky.
The launch took place at Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California, around 7 p.m., but could be seen in Las Vegas and surrounding areas.
The Falcon 9 rocket carried a new stack of 28 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit. The launch successfully reached space in just under minutes and the Falcon’s upper stage booster was on track to deploy the broadband internet relays (Starlink Group 11-20) about an hour after leaving the ground, according to SpaceX.

This was the 28th flight for the first stage booster supporting the mission Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich, DART, Transporter-7, Iridium OneWeb, SDA-0B, NROL-113, NROL-167, NROL-149, NAOS, and 18 Starlink missions, according to SpaceX’s website.
Residents in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may have heard one or more sonic booms during the launch.
In Las Vegas, many 8 News Now viewers reported seeing the rocket’s contrail in the sky.

This isn’t the first time the Las Vegas valley has seen a Falcon 9 launch this year. In February, residents saw a bright light in the sky from a launch also from Vandenberg Space Force Base.
