The Israeli domestic intelligence service Shin Bet said on Wednesday that it has foiled a planned assassination attempt by a cell of the Palestinian Islamist Hamas group on National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
In recent weeks, several Hamas militants from the Hebron region in the West Bank have been arrested, a Shin Bet statement said.
Drones were confiscated during their arrest, Shin Bet said. According to the investigations, the suspects had planned to attach explosives to the drones to carry out the attack.
The ultranationalist minister is one of the most controversial members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. He had temporarily left the government in January in protest at the planned ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He has been associated with the radical part of the settler movement since his youth.
