LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Travelers are getting an early start on the weekend, leaving Las Vegas for Southern California on Interstate 15.
Freeway cameras showed heavy southbound traffic on I-15 at about 12:30 p.m. at the California-Nevada state line. Traffic narrows to two lanes in California, and that is apparently causing the backup on Friday afternoon.
With New Year’s Eve falling on Tuesday and the New Year’s holiday on Wednesday, it could be packed on the Las Vegas Strip this weekend as people come early and stay late. Traffic in both directions could be heavy by early evening.

An estimated 350,000 people are expected in Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve.
So far, crashes aren’t hindering traffic.
