Energy: do we need a strategy?
The question even seems ridiculous!
Of course, everyone who wants to achieve and maintain a competitive position will respond that – obviously – there must be a strategy to make it viable to “get there”.
But our Brazilian institutions don’t think like that. Unfortunately.
We have been the “laggards” in energy prices per kWh for decades when the comparison is the BRICS. This despite having one of the most renewable and cheapest matrices on the planet.
The cost that leaves us out of competition is “everything that is included” in Brazilian energy. Here is a list of the most significant:
* Power theft
* Subsidies
* Lack of demand response program
* Lack of mitigation of the “duck curve”
* “Tortoises” (crony projects without competitive support)
The answer is yes! We need a strategy focused on RESULTS!
