That’s probably a stupid question. If you listen to the talking heads what can’t artificial intelligence do?
The hyper-scalers (aka big tech data centers operators) have an environmental problem. They are anxious to tout that they are helping save the world from climate change. To that end, big tech has been on the forefront of acquiring clean energy.
However, all their clean power efforts will not only be negated, but reversed by the buildout of data centers to facilitate the deployment of AI.
What to do?
Figure out how to lower the carbon footprint of the data centers themselves. There’s been numerous stories about companies like Google and Amazon turning to nuclear, or alternative net-zero sources like geothermal, to power the data centers. But what about the buildings?
Leaving no carbon-reducing opportunity unturned, the hyper-scalers are exploring a number of innovative solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of the construction and operation of the buildings. Check out today’s post for the details of some of their efforts.
