MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A Hudgins man was arrested Tuesday in connection with firing shots at a Dominion Energy transformer, according to the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office.
On Dec. 24, 2025, deputies were dispatched to the area of Cricket Hill Road and Buckley Hall Road for a report of damaged property.
An investigation determined that a Dominion Energy transformer stationed on a power pole had been shot and damaged. The sheriff’s office said ballistic evidence was recovered at the scene.

Surveillance footage was subsequently discovered which captured the shooting that took place on Dec. 23 at approximately 9:30 p.m. A male suspect was seen brandishing a pistol before shooting at the transformer, causing an oil leak and a minor power outage resulting in excess of $6,000.
Deputies executed a residential search warrant on Feb. 2, where additional evidence was recovered.
Robert Logan Diggs, 45, was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm and damage to property and valued at more than $1,000. He is currently being held at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center without bond.
