CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Winter weather is still making itself known across the Carolinas, and for many people, that means lingering power outages.
As of the latest update on Sunday evening, Duke Energy reports 519 active outages, leaving 20,280 customers without power across North and South Carolina.
North Carolina is seeing the bigger impact, with 10,819 customers currently in the dark, while 9,461 customers are without power in South Carolina.

Earlier Sunday, conditions were a bit better in some areas. Duke Energy had reported fewer outages statewide, and places like the Charlotte region and Kannapolis saw power restored after overnight issues. Western North Carolina, however, has continued to take the hardest hit, accounting for a large share of the remaining outages.
Crews are still out working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible, even as winter weather moves through the region.
Duke Energy is reminding folks to check outage updates online and to stay far away from downed power lines, especially with icy conditions making things more dangerous.
