ICYMI, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has grown uncharacteristically critical of the Trump administration in recent months — so much so that Trump has claimed the former MAGA-loyalist has “lost her way.”

“I haven’t lost my way. I am for the American people only and I will always put Americans First!!,” she said in response to Trump’s comment.
The drastic change in tune is confusing, to say the least. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suspects the sudden shift is MTG’s “revenge tour” after Trump allegedly blocked her from running for Senate in Georgia.

But MTG maintains her stance stems from being “unapologetically America First.” And during an appearance on The Sean Spicer Show this week, she homed in on a particularly pressing issue facing the American people: the administration’s efforts to downplay concerns about the economy.

“Gaslighting the people and trying to tell them that prices have come down is not helping,” she said. “It’s actually infuriating people because people know what they’re paying at the grocery store, they know what they’re paying for their kids clothes and school supplies, they know what they’re paying for their electricity bills.”

“So that approach does not work,” she continued. “We need compassion and showing we care about the American people and show that we are in the trenches with them on what they’re going through.”
“That’s first and foremost. You don’t gaslight them, you don’t lecture them, and you don’t deny what’s happening.”
Despite publicly splintering from the Republican party, MTG has been careful not to fully denounce Trump — whom she once referred to as her “favorite president.” On X, she wrote: “I give President Trump and his administration credit for bringing [inflation] down to 2.5%.”

Still, her comments about “gaslighting” seem to directly reference Trump and his repeated deflections of economic concerns, even as numerous polls show how dire the financial situation is for many Americans.

According to a recent CNN poll, 61% of Americans reported that their economic circumstances had worsened as a result of Trump’s policies.
As you’d imagine, people online are having a hard time believing that these comments came from…her.
“I just can’t get used to MTG saying things that make sense,” one X user said.
Others are just rolling with it, I guess.
