Bally’s has released a rendering of two new hotel towers headed to the Las Vegas Strip, bringing further detail to the plan to replace the Tropicana that sat for over six decades at the corner of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard.
In October 2024, the historic Tropicana was demolished to make way for the new A’s ballpark. The Tropicana, which opened in 1957, was once the most glamorous resort in Las Vegas, ushering in an era of opulence and mob bosses. In the 21st century, however, it became better known for its decrepitude, falling into neglect as Bally’s failed to update the hotel, knowing it was awaiting the wrecking ball.

A new rendering shows a 35-acre lot with the A’s stadium in the middle of the action. Around the ballpark are retailers, restaurants and entertainment venues, including a 2,500-seat theater. On the corners of the lot are two “luxury” hotel towers that Bally’s says will have 3,000 total rooms. That’s nearly double the size of the Trop, which had about 1,500 rooms when it was demolished.

A multistory parking garage is also behind the stadium, and two pedestrian walkways over the roadways connect the area with the Excalibur and MGM Grand. The project, if completed like it appears in the rendering, will completely transform the southern end of the Strip, which is a sad collection of aging hotels like Luxor and empty construction sites.
Marnell Architecture is helming the project; the legendary firm designed some of the Strip’s most famous resorts, including Caesars Palace, the Bellagio and the Wynn. The Bally’s resort will offer a “VIP experience with direct access to the ballpark,” Bally’s said in a news release.

Construction is underway on the A’s ballpark, which is expected to open in time for the 2028 season. The finished stadium is slated to have 33,000 seats – the Oakland Coliseum had about 46,000 for baseball games – and an air-conditioned interior to deal with the extreme desert heat. The remainder of the site will remain under construction. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the first phase of construction, which includes the ballpark, parking garage and plaza, should be done in 2028.
Bally’s said the hotel towers should start development in the first half of next year.
