LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The man who was inside a bus shelter when an accused speeding hit-and-run driver lost control and crashed into the bus shelter has died.
According to the Clark County coroner’s office, the 61-year-old man, who suffered extensive injuries in the July 31 crash, died on Aug. 19.

The driver, Roberto Olivas, 27, is accused of hitting another vehicle at Rampart Boulevard and Vegas Drive, fleeing the scene at speeds reaching up to 99 miles per hour, crashing into a fire hydrant, an electrical box, a light pole, a water utility box, and then the bus shelter where the man was inside. The crash resulted in a major power outage that lasted for hours, impacting local businesses.

Olivas remains in the Clark County Detention Center with a $200,000 bail. His felony DUI and reckless driving charges will likely be upgraded as a result of the victim’s death. He is also charged with three misdemeanor counts, including operating a motor vehicle with no proof of insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, and duty to give information for failing to give another driver his information after a minor collision, according to court documents.
The coroner’s office will release the identity of the man who died.
