How to reduce the carbon footprint in Brazil?
We systematically read articles about technological solutions that reduce carbon emissions.
What I want to draw attention to is a list of low-cost actions that would have the merit of reaching and maintaining a new “emission bar” in Brazil.
1. Electric (Instant) showers transferred to off-peak hours
If there were an incentive for these showers to be used off-peak hours, there would be a great benefit. Each GW transferred would avoid the construction of new plants worth USD 1 billion. There are 60 million of these showers in Brazil. Considering that a fraction adhered, there would be a spectacular gain.
2. Demand response program
If there were a comprehensive program that offered the opportunity for industrial, commercial and institutional consumers to reduce their demand in critical situations, the country would benefit. This type of program is very successful in a list of countries.
3. Prioritize renewable plants
If there were no crony projects, the country would gain a lot, as it would focus on hydroelectric plants with reservoirs – with low emissions – avoiding the thermal plants that were/are considered. Brazil is a super expert in hydroelectric plants. They are 100% made in Brazil. This is not the case with a list of other sources.
