Energy: inconsistencies in Brazil
The CCEE (Electric Energy Brazilian Power Clearinghouse) has published spot prices for the Southeast-Central-West and South regions above R$300/MWh out of the R$ 60/MWh plateau that was effective for months in a row.
Do these prices really represent reality?
The question arises when spot prices rise with this intensity, shouldn’t the tariff flag “rise” from the green to yellow or red?
Or could it be that specific “reasons” for this increase make it possible to avoid the “escalation” of the flags?
The signals from the Brazilian electricity sector are confusing. Managers of companies and institutions that need to plan their energy accounts do not have reliable and quality official indicators.
And the result is always the same: Brazil remains at the tail end of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) when the reference is the cost of energy in $/kWh.
