LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — When fans found out Aldi was going to open a store in Henderson, there was a buzz in the community but very little information from the grocery chain based in Batavia, Illinois.
Now, as the opening of that store draws nearer at 611 Marks St. — next to the Best Buy near the Galleria at Sunset mall — two more locations are taking shape in the Las Vegas valley.
The opening dates have become a bit of a mystery.

Information earlier this week on Google Maps was not confirmed by Aldi officials, but suggested that all three locations would open on April 16. The date, which has now been removed from Google Maps, seemed unlikely as construction continues at a North Las Vegas location (Craig Road and Clayton Street) and a southwest valley location (Rainbow Boulevard at Arby Avenue).

Aldi officials responded to questions emailed on Tuesday with this statement on Friday:
“We are excited to share that our stores in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas are expected to open later this spring. We have lots of fun plans coming to the market so as we get closer to the opening, we’ll be sure to reach back out with more details on the new stores.”
-Shawn Eddy, Moreno Valley Divisional Vice President at ALDI
When the Henderson location was revealed in documents filed with the city, plans showed the store taking over a portion of a closed Bed, Bath and Beyond location. The North Las Vegas plan is similar, occupying a little more than half of a former 24 Hour Fitness location. The third location appears to be in a new building in the fast-growing southwest valley.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market expands in Henderson, customers hope for affordable options
Aldi is known as a no-frills store with good deals on its own branded products, building a following from loyal customers across the U.S. Aldi claims it can save shoppers up to 40% on their grocery bill. In March, the company announced it would expand with 800 new stores over a five-year period.
It will be a new experience for a lot of shoppers when the Las Vegas locations begin to open.
Aldi prides itself on thrifty innovations — like its system to deposit a quarter to use a grocery cart, and then getting the quarter back when you put it back. But mostly, it’s about the thrift. The chain requires reusable bags (it sells its own) and it shelves groceries in their original shipping boxes.
