Energy: how much is a strategy worth?
I always try to encourage upper managers and board members of companies and institutions to adopt a simple but very powerful stance: to dedicate the same amount of time to energy as to other “account” of the same value.
It’s obvious, but unusual.
The energy bill is usually a Top 10 account and, in many cases, Top 5.
Compare what happens with other accounts of the same size in order of magnitude. Reality shows that the energy account lags far behind. Here’s a suggestion, based on the reality of great success stories.
Allocate time to energy for directors and board members to ensure that they are identifying opportunities and capturing them. There’s a world to be discovered! From energy contracting, its efficient use, generation/cogeneration projects to higher voltage access.
The cool thing is that there’s the possibility of using simple language, without jargon, to really offer powerful communication – that can make a big difference. It’s worth trying!
