LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A speeding driver who ran a stop sign at 140+ mph near a southwest valley middle school caused a fiery crash that killed him and another driver Tuesday night, Las Vegas Metropolitan police said.
The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of South Torrey Pines Drive and West Robindale Road near Canarelli Middle School.
According to police, witnesses said the 35-year-old driver of a Dodge Challenger who the Clark County Coroner’s office later identified as Aldo Hernandez Calderon was speeding while heading northbound on Torrey Pines and failed to stop at a four-way stop and struck a Mercedes-Benz with a 61-year-old driver.
Calderon had 16 prior offenses and no driver’s license, according to police. Both men died at the scene.
The two deaths are the 118th and 119th traffic-related fatalities in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2024.
