Energy: supply x demand in Brazil
Brazil (official sector) specializes in focusing on the supply of electrical energy.
On the one hand, it’s great because the country has been able to meet the market’s demand. On the other hand, there is still a long way to go (a lot actually) – targeting demand.
How to encourage energy consumption to be “parsimonious”, targeting the most interesting and convenient times of use and mitigating the risks of an increasingly less firm matrix (solar, wind and run-of-the-river plants).
Leading countries in the energy sector have achieved and maintained major achievements on the demand side. Brazil would urgently need to address at least 3 actions:
1. Deploy demand response programs
2. Effective power theft reduction programs
3. Elimination of “crony projects (plants without viability)
Do we have the capacity and honesty to make it happen?
