Those that oppose solar energy often cite the environmental impact from manufacturing solar panels. But one company has eliminated that objection – at least to a degree.
It’s Chinese manufacturer JinkoSolar and they have just announced their N-type Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) Tiger Neo module. Not a particularly catchy name. And I have no idea what all that means. However, it doesn’t matter because this solar panel’s claim to fame is that it was produced using renewable energy.
According to PV Tech Magazine, Jinko shipped more PV module volume in 2023 than any other vendor. In Q3 alone it shipped over 21 gigawatts of modules globally, the majority of which were its high-efficiency TopCon product.
That’s all well and good but can this Chinese claim of renewable energy manufacturing be trusted?
It seems so. The factory that the modules were produced in received the “Zero Carbon Factory” certification from German PV testing and certification firm TÜV Rheinland. According to the Jinko, they are the first solar PV manufacturer to receive that certification.
The company plans to produce 5 gigawatts of the new modules annually.
Congratulations to JinkoSolar on this milestone. Hopefully this will start a trend in the PV module manufacturing space.
