“US utility company Dominion Energy has agreed to pilot the deployment of two novel non-lithium technologies designed for long-duration energy storage (LDES) applications.
Iron-air batteries from Form Energy and zinc hybrid cathode batteries from Eos Energy Enterprises will be put through their paces by the utility.
At the same time, under state legislation to combat climate change and boost the clean energy economy, Dominion is among Virginia utilities ordered to contribute towards achieving a 3.1GW energy storage policy target by 2035.”
This is very positive news for LDES sector as we move away from lithium based batteries to other electrochemical technologies which are are more focused on “multi-day” storage.
With this pilot installation of 100-hour duration, at 5MW output and 500MWh storage capacity, Form Energy and Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. are combining two different technologies, one solves the efficiency and the other capacity.
