Earlier this year I did a video on e-mobility. (see attached). Even then, the trends seem to be moving away from micro-mobility options like scooters. Recent actions in Paris may accelerate the move toward min-mobility.
Over 90% of the city’s residents have voted to outlaw e-scooter rentals. Private scooters are still allowed, but the effort started five years ago to promote micro-mobility options has crashed and burned.
The ban is the result of reckless behavior including driving on sidewalks, and because renters simply leave scooters at their destination. Other cities are experiencing a similar backlash. I think many of us have seen this anti-social behavior.
The moral of the story is that those who support climate change need to do more thinking before they act. Not all clean energy ideas are good ones. In fact, too many of them are – how can I put this diplomatically – stupid, and a waste of time and energy. We’d be better served to think through the unintended consequences because rushing to promote new ideas.
