At around 7:30 a.m., police received a call from an employee at the Dollar Tree on Craig Road and Decatur Boulevard reporting that someone had driven their car through the front of the store.
When officers arrived, they spoke to the employee, who said her manager had been stabbed. Officers found the manager, who had multiple stab wounds, in the back of the store and identified the suspect, Handley, as her ex-boyfriend and father of her children.
The woman told police that she and Handley were in an argument over text and phone calls regarding their son. During the argument, Handley threatened to go to her work and “beat her [expletive],” the report said.

That morning, the woman got to work and saw Handley at a nearby fast food restaurant and went inside her workplace, thinking that he did not see her. The woman then called her son and told him that his father had sent her a threatening text message and was at her job, police said.

Handley then texted the woman that he was going to drive his car into the business if she did not reply to him. Shortly after, the woman’s son arrived and got into an argument with Handley outside the business, where the son asked Handley to leave the store and to leave his mother alone, according to police.
Handley then drove to the front of the store and through the front of the Dollar Tree, crashing through the windows. The son said he felt he needed to protect his mother and pulled out a gun and fired into the vehicle, the report said.
Handley then climbed out of the vehicle and began to chase the woman back to the store. Handley found the woman and began stabbing her multiple times, police said.

Another employee pushed Handley off of her, and her son came out back and saw his father standing over his mother. The son said he believed Handley was going to kill his mother and chased his father and shot at him multiple times before going back to check on his mother, the report said.
Polcie then used the drone unit to find Handley, who was hiding in the dumpster area near the store. Officers and K9 units were able to take him into custody without incident.
“This is another example of how our drone program is helping officers respond faster, track suspects more effectively, and protect lives in critical moments.”
Handley is a registered sex offender and has a previous third-degree rape conviction out of Buffalo City, New York, records said. As of Monday, Handley remained in the Clark County Detention Center on a $1.5 million bail and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
