A person who recently bought a Powerball ticket at a Midlands gas station was one number away from winning the game’s grand prize, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said.
For coming so close to winning the multimillion jackpot, the ticket buyer will be rewarded with a $100,000 payday, according to the release.
Now the search is underway for the winner.
The $100,000 winning Powerball game was sold at Youngs gas station/convenience store, according to the release. That’s at 301 East Charlotte Ave. in Sumter.

The winning numbers in the Jan. 12 Powerball drawing were 5, 27, 45, 56, 59 and Powerball: 4.
The odds of matching four white numbers and the red ball number is 1-in-913,129, officials said.
The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, according to lottery officials.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

When the ticket is claimed, Youngs is expected to receive a commission for selling the winning game.
In addition to the $100,000 winning game, more than 9,000 other ticket buyers won prizes in the Jan. 12 drawing, according to the release.
Because there was no grand prize winner Saturday night, the jackpot for Monday’s Powerball drawing has grown to $193 million.
Anyone looking to buy a ticket must make a purchase by 9:59 p.m. Monday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.
The odds of winning Powerball’s grand prize are 1-in-293 million.
A Powerball® ticket with PowerPlay® sold at an Sumter convenience store for Monday’s drawing is worth $100,000. The ticket was purchased at Youngs at 301 E. Charlotte Ave. in Sumter.
