The truck then landed on Gateway East before it caught on fire, shutting down the road for hours. As a result, three people were taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries and two others with non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the victims suffered a severe lower back injury, a closed head injury, a lumbar soft tissue hematoma, and various abrasions. The victim’s family has started a GoFundMe to help with his injuries. To access that GoFundMe, click here.
TxDOT plans to replace I-10 East sign after fiery crash
TxDOT confirmed to KTSM that the overhead sign bridge damaged in the crash will be replaced. There is no estimated timeframe for replacing the sign since it needs to be designed, and the area needs to be assessed for new installation.

Although TxDOT doesn’t have the exact cost for a sign like that, a sign of a similar size can range from $250,000 to $350,000. If the driver is at fault, they/their insurance will be responsible for the costs, including the cleanup, guardrail repairs, sign removal, traffic control, and replacement, according to TxDOT.
El Paso Police did not say if Rubio will be paying the costs for the new sign.
