A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the death of his half-brother, police in Redlands say.
The Redlands Police Department issued a release on Wednesday morning stating that the incident occurred on Kansas Street on Tuesday morning when officers received reports of shots fired with a man down inside an apartment building.
When officers got to the scene, they found a man deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. He was identified as 36-year-old Aaron Richard Rivera.

According to police, after the shooting, the suspect – later identified as Rivera’s half brother Zackary Aaron Brodowski – fled the location, but not before leaving the gas burners on the apartment stove open while Rivera’s two children slept.

“Family members and evidence located at the scene indicated the suspect was the victim’s half-brother, Zackary,” officials said. “Surveillance cameras at the apartment complex also showed Brodowski leaving the scene immediately after the shooting.”
Investigators later tracked down Brodowski and his vehicle, a silver 2008 Ford Focus, to his residence in Calimesa. After SWAT Team members and detectives set up surveillance on the residence, Brodowski was taken into custody.
