STORY: China has restarted talks with the EU over electric vehicles.Beijing said Thursday (December 11) negotiations over a minimum price plan for China-made EVs are back on and will continue into next week. The talks come more than a year after the EU approved duties of up to 45.3% on Chinese EVs.That after the European Commission began investigating whether China’s EV makers got unfair subsidies which could lead to a supply overload in Europe.China argues its manufacturers are just more competitive than their European rivals.Beijing has also urged Brussels to accept a minimum price plan in place of tariffs.Analysts say the EU is a vital market for Chinese automakers.Particularly as they face shrinking margins at home due to price wars and deflation.China’s Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong said China welcomed the EU’s renewed commitment to restarting price negotiations. However, the commission has previously said it believes a single minimum price wouldn’t be enough to counter injury caused by subsidies.
