<span>STORY: :: Ukraine signs a deal with Greece for U.S. gas imports to cover its winter needs</span><span>:: November 16, 2025</span><span>:: Athens, Greece</span><span>:: Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Ukrainian President</span><span>“To compensate for the destruction of our own production by the Russians, our agreements with Greece today are an important part of the large energy package that we have prepared for this winter to provide Ukraine with gas. // Gas supplies will begin in January, and it is important that our first agreements are implemented in the first quarter. Also, in addition to the agreement on the immediate supply of gas, there are also long-term agreements.”</span><span>The deal was signed between Greek gas company DEPA and Ukraine’s Naftogaz during Zelenskiy’s visit to Athens. </span><span>Ukraine has resumed gas imports from a pipeline that runs across the Balkan peninsula to Greece to secure winter supplies after Russia stepped up strikes on power generation, electricity and gas production facilities in the fourth year of its war on Ukraine.</span><span>Sunday’s deal comes after Athens this month clinched its first long-term deal to supply U.S. LNG to Europe starting in 2030 after the European Union approved a ban on Russian LNG from 2027 over its war in Ukraine.</span>
