A head-on collision involving two semitrucks Thursday morning near Avenal in Kings County resulted in 3,000 gallons of oil spillage and an hours-long highway closure.
The accident occurred at about 6:20 a.m. on Highway 33, north of South 7th Avenue in Avenal, according to Kings County spokesperson Michael Powers.
Approximately 3,000 gallons of crude oil spilled on the scene as a result of the crash, said Powers.

The drivers of the two semitrucks sustained minor injuries, with one driver being extricated from their vehicle by the Kings County Fire Department. Both drivers declined to be taken to the hospital.
The cleanup effort involved multiple hazmat teams and multiple law enforcement agencies.

The highway is anticipated to be closed for the remainder of the day.
