UPDATE: This story has been updated with new information on the plans for the building.
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Demolition work has started inside the closed Village Square movie theater at West Sahara Avenue and South Fort Apache Road.
A permit for the work was approved this month. The theater closed in 2023, one of the about 40 Regal Cinema locations that shut down following the company’s bankruptcy in late 2022.

In April, the Las Vegas Planning Commission approved plans to transform the space into apartments, but plans have changed in the four months since then.
A leasing agent involved with the property told 8 News Now that new tenants in the building will include a 20,000-square-foot climbing gym and a barbecue restaurant. Other tenants haven’t been revealed yet.
Workers are gutting the building now. Stadium seating, a concession stand, movie screens, sound systems and walls that don’t support the structure are coming down along with everything on the walls — a “grey shell demo/remodel.”
Bill Bayne, the owner of the building, said in April that he was still exploring options.

Village Square is on the northwest corner of Sahara and Fort Apache, and the theater is set back from the road with a large parking area and parking behind the building that borders the Broadstone Talavera apartment complex.
