While the sedan is the most fuel-efficient option among automobiles, car companies stretched their wings and began to produce a variety of fuel-efficient SUVs.
A recent compilation by Brian Silvestro and Joey Capparella of Road And Track ranked the top 10 SUVs by miles per gallon (MPG).
The one that took the top spot was the 2025 Kia Niro with a 53 combined mpg.

The starting price for the Niro comes in at $28,385.

The Kia Niro tops the charts with a 1.6-liter inline-four engine and an electric motor, which helps it go above and beyond the rest of the SUVs on this list.
The Niro comes in a variety of choices, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and a fully electric version with a 253-mile range; however, the price for that one comes in at just under $40,000.
If you want an SUV while also saving at the gas pump, there are plenty of options on the market.
