Energy: summer and winter in Brazil
The Brazilian hourly demand curve presents two typical graphs: for hot days and for cold days. The difference is mainly associated with the maximums observed throughout the day.
On hot days, the maximum demand occurs in the middle of the afternoon and extends until the beginning of the evening. On cold days, it occurs in the beginning of the evening.
The suggestion I present to the electricity sector is to make the rates reflect this condition, since they are currently “out of step” with reality. The importance of this suggestion is to encourage consumers to use energy to the maximum during off-peak hours.
What happens with the current rates is a false signal, the consequence of which, of course, is to increase costs that end up being passed on to everyone. It is simple conceptually.
The “wire fees” should be as a function of “seasonal hours”. And, valid for all consumers – regulated and deregulated. For anyone wishing to explore this possibility, I am available as a consultant to discover solutions of interest and convenience for the entire value chain of the electricity sector.
