LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A missing man allegedly stabbed a grocery shopper in a Las Vegas parking lot in what police call a “random” attack, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.
Cristhian Areiza Calle, 32, who police said disappeared from New Jersey, faces charges of attempted murder and battery with the use of a deadly weapon, documents said.
On Tuesday, April 1, dispatchers received a call about a stabbing in a parking lot on Desert Inn Road near Decatur Boulevard. Officers arrived, finding a man, later identified as Areiza Calle, with a stab wound to his hand. Paramedics transported another person who had “significant injuries” to the hospital, documents said.

A witness told police she saw Areiza Calle approach a stranger in the parking lot and then fight with him, documents said. The stranger was loading groceries into a car.
Police described the attack as “random” and said mental illness may be to blame.
Investigators found a shopping bag nearby with “many knives,” including one covered in blood, police said.
A judge denied setting bail during an initial hearing on April 2, records said. The case was originally filed as an open murder charge however, the victim survived.
Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Harmony Letizia referred Areiza Calle to competency court to determine if he could stand trial.

It was not immediately clear from where in New Jersey Areiza Calle disappeared, nor when he was reported missing.
