Africa faces a significant energy access challenge, with nearly 600 million people living without electricity. In response, Mission 300, a bold initiative led by the World Bank and the African Development Bank, aims to connect 300 million people across the continent to electricity by 2030.
This ambitious effort focuses on leveraging innovative technologies and financing solutions to bridge the energy gap. A key component is the deployment of mini-grids, which have become an effective solution for electrifying remote and underserved areas. Additionally, Mission 300 supports the development of National Energy Compacts to guide countries in expanding their energy infrastructure.
To drive investment, the initiative also collaborates with partners like The Rockefeller Foundation and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP). The launch of Zafiri, an investment platform offering patient equity to private companies working in distributed renewable energy, further underscores the commitment to sustainable solutions.
By empowering communities with affordable and reliable electricity, Mission 300 has the potential to enhance living standards, create economic opportunities, and propel Africa toward a more sustainable and equitable energy future.
