Congratulations to Puesh Kumar with this new position and a big thanks for all of his contributions within U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER).
DOE CESER is an important organization serving as the CISA Sector Risk Management Agency (SRMA) with responsibility for cybersecurity practices across energy critical infrastructure. This is an important time as the energy industry undergoes an energy transition with higher load growth and DER expansion while simultaneously facing ongoing cyber threats, such as Volt Typhoon and other cyber risks. There are calls for greater harmonization of cybersecurity standards across Federal and State regulators by industry representatives, such as the Edison Electric Institute, and FERC is working to secure the software supply chain from cyber-risks and threats.
This is a time for action and DOE Leadership will need to carefully choose a strong, smart, determined leader with courage, tenacity and a willingness to collaborate in respectful, public-private partnerships to tackle tough problems as a replacement for Puesh in the important role of DOE CESER Director. Godspeed Sean and Karen.
