LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The government plans to auction off 11 pieces of property scattered around the Las Vegas valley on March 18, 2025, according to an item published in the federal register on Dec. 26.
In all, the parcels total about 90 acres, mostly near existing development. Some of the sites in Henderson and the northwest valley are in undeveloped areas.
Unlike recent initiatives to use federal land, this auction is more routine without the discount prices that have paved the way for affordable housing projects. Local and state government officials worked with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to offer some parcels in the valley for $100 an acre.

Some of the land released for auction is in the southwest valley near the land designated for affordable housing. The map below shows the land to be auctioned on March 18:
The BLM regularly auctions federal land to local developers, setting aside about 85% of the money raised for parks and recreation projects through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA). That money has paid for the development of parks and trail systems since 1998.
SNPLMA has generated more than $4.5 billion since then.
