LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas Metro police tell 8 News Now that 139,000 people attended this year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix over its three nights — far lower than the 306,000 people Formula 1 announced for total attendance. So why the difference?
On Monday, LVMPD’s Office of Public Information reported 57,000 people attended the race Saturday night — the most-attended night. A spokesperson added that 32,000 people attended Thursday and 50,000 attended Friday.
The total number would put attendance over the three race days at 139,000.
A spokesperson for F1 Las Vegas said the numbers are incorrect, reiterating the 306,000 attendance figure.
The spokesperson said the number from Metro included scanned tickets from F1’s operated fan zones and did not include attendance from the paddock building or other zones not operated by F1.
The 306,000 number is also the number F1 estimated to be at this year’s race according to an event permit filed with the county.
During an earnings call earlier this week, F1 officials expected lower ticket revenue for the race’s second year compared to the inaugural 2023 festivities.
Teardown operations were already underway in the hours after the race and will continue into December.
Formula 1 has a 10-year contract with the county, which started with the 2023 race. During a 2023 race debrief released earlier this year, officials estimated the event had a $1.5 billion economic impact on the area with $77 million in taxes connected to the three-day event.
It was unclear Monday if the county planned to do a debrief for the 2024 race.
