Energy: cost socialisation
The Brazilian strategy in the energy sector is based on “cost socialisation”.
A more emblematic example was the “compulsory loan to Eletrobras” charged without ceremony for years on electricity bills.
Loan in this case is a euphemism because to get it back after decades requires years of legal work and involves significant legal costs (tens of %) in relation to the “cause”.
The subsidy programs in force – for years – start from the same logic: it is the “others” who do not benefit from the subsidies, who pay! T
he “power theft” is a significant part of the costs that everyone also pays (in tariffs) unequivocally represents this “socialisation”.
When will we face these essential challenges?
Who will have the courage and honesty to launch themselves into this cause?
