On April 29, the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant’s Unit 4 entered commercial operation. The plant is now the largest electricity producing power plant in the United States. Located near Waynesboro, Georga, Plant Vogtle is home to four nuclear reactors with a total generating capacity of 4,664 megawatts (MW). The plant is expected to generate carbon-free electricity for the next 60-80 years. Plant Vogtle is operated by Southern Nuclear and jointly owned by Georgia Power Company (45.7%), Oglethorpe Power Corporation (30%), Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (22.7%) and Dalton Utilities (1.6%). This is a great day for nuclear power and clean energy in America.
