Energy & Frustration
One of the most striking characteristics of the new generations, who are working with energy, is their inability to deal with frustrations.
But frustrations are an inevitable part of our professional lives.
The big difference between those who give up and those who thrive is the determination to learn from the frustrations.
Nowadays we have to be very careful when addressing young people. You should always be very attentive, soft-spoken, and never “say it out loud” as it is not “appropriate””.
Quite the opposite of what the vice president of a large American energy company for whom I was providing consultancy, once told me – without ceremony -: your presentation is not good!
I considered this statement as a contribution. I asked the VP what were the points that needed a new consideration. Then I began preparing a new presentation, which was subsequently approved. I learned! I was not complaining, saddened or outraged by the sincerity of the evaluation.
Today this vice president, if she were in charge of a company in Brazil, would be the subject of a complaint for “lack of consideration”.
