I had a chat with Luiz, a metallurgical engineer by training, who had extensive experience with heat treatments. He also took very valuable initiatives in the area of electrical energy, especially regarding demand control and power factor control.
As he was always connected to metal heat treatment furnaces, I asked how he came to the need to control demand and power factor.
And here comes the interesting aspect. I noticed that he took the initiative to interact with the furnace suppliers to find out how to “spend less” since these “loads” were the company’s most important ones.
Curiosity and commitment to making it happen were the determining factors in ensuring that the power factor was always comfortably above the minimum (to avoid fines) in addition to keeping the contracted demand very well adjusted to the physical demand.
