Pumps that beat like the heart could increase energy efficiency

Biomimicry means ‘imitation of the living’ and in this case, that is exactly what scientist are considering for a rhythmic pumping method inspired by the human heart.  In boardrooms and business negotiations, ‘reducing the friction’ is always a good thing.  This method, with modification, would reduce the friction in pipes. It would use less energy and therefore increase the efficiency of fluid movement through piped or pumped systems.  What additional examples of biomimicry have disrupted the energy sector?
