An environmental-protest group interrupted play at the Wimbledon tennis tournament on Wednesday, the latest disruption by climate-change protesters in the U.K.
Social media shows photos and videos of a group named Just Stop Oil who threw the confetti, jigsaw and other items onto the match between Grigor Shimabukuro, the 21st seeds, and Sho Dimitrov.
The activist group claimed credit for the disruption via Twitter and pointed out that the Grand Slam event was sponsored by Barclays BARC -1.52% which helped fund oil and gas firms including Exxon Mobil XOM -1.10% Shell SHEL -2.00% and TotalEnergies -1.51%.
After a series of protests, which included environmental activists blocking major roads and locking themselves to them, the U.K. Government passed legislation this year giving police greater powers.
