COGEN Europe has appointed Roberto Francia as its new Managing Director, replacing Fiona Riddoch, who stepped down after almost a decade at the head of Europe’s chief cogeneration industry lobby.
Francia has been active in advocacy with EU institutions since 2004, specialising in energy and climate topics, particularly electricity policy. He is cofounder and managing partner at Cinque International, which provides analysis, project design and implementation in the energy and transport sectors.
Reflecting on the new appointment Mr Francia said: “COGEN Europe is one of the established industry associations in Brussels, working for the industry with the EU institutions, and I am proud to join a well-respected team. This is a time of significant change in the energy sector.”
“Cogeneration’s strength is to provide the stability of highly efficient heat and power, on site, where and when the user needs it. Cogeneration is a diverse, exciting and innovative contributor with a strong role to play in the future robustness, efficiency, and CO₂ emission reduction of the energy networks. I welcome the challenge of working with EU policy makers to develop the policy framework that will let cogeneration deliver its potential for energy savings in Europe. I look forward to working with the members of the association across the full range of the cogeneration industry as we strengthen and develop the stakeholder base.”
Francia has also recently been heading up industry group, Hydrogen Mobility Italy, aimed at assisting the Italian government in drafting Italy’s hydrogen fuelling infrastructure rollout plan.
